King David is considered an outstanding poet-musician from the Jerusalem of bygone times (ancient Jerusalem). Whether he was the creator of hymns and psalms orwhether he just recited them or encouraged others to sing them, all major monotheistic religions honour him as a model in the art of glorifying God.
The concert offers a selection of King David's most beautiful psalms, sung in the ancient tradition of the Jews of southern Morocco. The programm are complemented by Gregorian chants and works by authors from other countries such as Gilles Binchois, Josquin des Prés, Hieronimus Parabosco, Christopher Tye, Claude Goudimel, Orlando di Lasso and Salomone Rossi. Da Pacem Domine, a work by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, draws a link to the 21st century.
